Mortgage Protection Insurance in Frisco
Mortgage protection is life insurance built around one number: what you still owe on your loan. We match the coverage amount and term to your mortgage, name the right beneficiary, and walk you through every page so you know what your family would have.
What mortgage protection actually is
At its core, mortgage protection is a term life policy sized to your mortgage balance and set to last about as long as the loan. If you die during that term, the policy pays out and your family can clear the loan or keep making payments without scrambling.
Most new borrowers start getting mailers within weeks of closing, many printed to look like they came from the lender. Those offers are not required, and they are rarely the only option. We compare level coverage, decreasing coverage and plans that include living benefits, then explain which one fits your loan and your budget.
The same agent who takes your first call handles the comparison, the application and the final review. You will not be passed between departments or asked to repeat your story.
What we handle for you
- Loan-based coverage sizing
- We work from your current balance, interest rate and years remaining. A recent mortgage statement is all we need to start.
- Level or decreasing term
- Decreasing coverage shrinks as the loan does and usually costs less. Level coverage stays the same, so the extra can go toward other bills once the balance drops. We show both side by side.
- Beneficiary set to your family
- Some mailer policies pay the lender directly. We generally recommend naming your spouse or family instead, so they decide whether to pay off the loan, keep the low rate or cover other needs first.
- Living benefit and disability options
- Many carriers offer riders that pay part of the benefit during a terminal or chronic illness, or cover payments for a time after a disabling injury. We explain what each rider costs and when it is worth adding.
- Underwriting path that fits your health
- Some plans need a short medical exam, others are issued on health questions alone. We tell you the tradeoff in price and speed before you choose.
When mortgage protection makes sense
You just closed on a loan
A new mortgage is the largest debt most families carry. Locking in coverage while you are younger and healthier usually means a lower rate for the full term.
One income carries the payment
If the mortgage depends mostly on your paycheck, losing that income would put the loan at risk within months.
Your group policy would not cover it
Coverage through an employer is often one or two times salary and ends if you leave the job. That may fall well short of your balance.
You refinanced or moved up
A bigger loan or a reset term means an older policy may no longer line up. We review what you have before suggesting anything new.
The mailers are piling up
If you are unsure whether those offers are legitimate or necessary, we will read them with you and give a straight answer.
How the process runs
- 1
A conversation by phone
We talk through your loan, your family and what you want the coverage to do. It takes about twenty minutes and there is no obligation.
- 2
Side-by-side options
We prepare a short comparison of carriers, term lengths and riders, with the monthly premium for each. You see why one costs more than another.
- 3
Application and underwriting
Once you choose, we complete the application with you and schedule any exam. We keep you posted as the carrier reviews it, which can take a few days to several weeks.
- 4
Policy review on delivery
When the policy arrives, your agent goes through the amount, the term, the beneficiary and any riders, so nothing in the fine print is a surprise.

What moves the premium
Mortgage protection is usually one of the more affordable ways to cover a large debt, but no two quotes are the same. We price several carriers so you can see how each choice changes the monthly cost before you commit to anything.
- Age and health
- These matter most. Rates are set when the policy is issued, so applying earlier generally costs less over the life of the loan.
- Tobacco use
- Smokers and nicotine users pay noticeably more with nearly every carrier.
- Loan balance and term
- A larger balance or a 30-year term costs more than a smaller loan or a 15-year term.
- Level versus decreasing
- Decreasing coverage is cheaper because the benefit falls over time. Level coverage costs more but holds its full value.
- Riders and underwriting
- Living benefit, disability and return-of-premium riders add cost. No-exam plans are quicker but often priced higher than fully underwritten ones.
Mortgage protection questions
Something not covered here? (469) 717-3900
Is this the same thing as the PMI on my loan?
They cover different people. PMI is something a lender may require when the down payment is small, and it exists to cover the lender's loss if the loan goes into default. Mortgage protection is a life policy you choose for yourself, and the benefit goes to the beneficiary you name, usually your spouse or family.
Is it better than a regular term life policy?
Often it is a term life policy, just sized to the loan. For some families a single larger term life policy covers the mortgage and other goals at once. We price both so you can compare.
What happens if I sell or pay off the loan early?
If your family is the beneficiary, the policy keeps going as long as you pay premiums, even after the loan is gone. You can keep it as general coverage or cancel it.
Do I need a medical exam?
Not always. Some carriers issue coverage from health questions alone. A full exam usually brings a lower rate, so we show you both prices before you decide.
Do you work with clients outside Frisco?
Yes. We help clients across Collin and Denton counties, including Prosper, Plano, McKinney and Little Elm, all by phone.
